An article from the Times I thought was interesting:
Public Policy That Makes Test Subjects of Us All
The author makes an interesting point: that government regulations (in this instance, to reduce salt in food) are effectively experiments on vast populations undertaken without the consent of participants. Not sure what I think of this claim. Does anyone see any holes in the argument?
I also have the feeling that the article is somewhat reminiscent of tobacco companies campaigns to disprove government claims about the adverse health effects of smoking. For instance, the dire warning that "Salt deprivation might also darken your mood..." I doubt there is a single person in the entire USA at risk of salt DEPRIVATION.

Hi Lexi,
ReplyDeleteI think most people in the class only check the New Futurist blog space. I know you were absent a few times and mabye did not get the info about the New Futurist. Here is the link http://newfuturists.ning.com/ and we are all part of the group Science + Technology where we post our responses and can look at eachothers.
